This set isn’t as complex as it is time consuming! While it’s not hard to build it will take hours to complete just one variation and that’s ok! My son is autistic and loves Legos/building styles of toys and this was not as bad as some of the more complex sets but just as time consuming. He has had a blast building each option in the book and then started mixing them together to make his own! It feels like a quality plastic that so far has worked great and he hasn’t broken it yet, be prepared to have a mess for a while when your kids are building but zip lock bags will be your friend here. I’ll definitely be exploring other options this company has to offer!

I got this as a gift for my son’s 9th birthday. What most appealed to me when selecting this item was that he had the option of picking which dinosaur to build first and then could take it apart after it was completed and build a whole different one. It was going to be something he could work on alone to feel the accomplishment of doing it all by himself. This is listed ages 8+. He is a straight A student and has been doing STEM projects and LEGOs by himself for years so we didn’t expect any problems. Unfortunately this was not the case. His father had to help him. And even with his help the two of them struggled to understand the labeling on the bags and their correlation to the instructions.In order for this to be completed without adult assistance it should be marketed for an older age groupI have to admit that although he did struggle at first, we got far more than expected for the price. With the quality of the materials, all that this item does, and how complex it is it comes at a great price tag. Most STEM “toys” cost twice as much.Overall we like it a lot, we just might have waited a few more years so we wouldn’t have had to step in and help.

Through the building process children develop fine motor skills and an understanding of basic engineering principles. It's a great way to introduce them to stem concepts in a fun hands on way. However due to the complexity of the parts and the detailed instructions this set is best suited for ages 12 and up. My son is 10 and it was very difficult for him to figure out.
