I'm ashamed that it took me this long to review this item, but the truth is it took me this long to get it set up. I'm not sure if it's ironic or just silly that I eventually mounted it in front of the actual built-in fireplace (with chimney). But it's a gas fireplace and I finally admitted to myself that I'm never going to use it because I'm always going to be afraid that I'm going to try to light it and it'll explode the house (plus I'd have to buy firewood, and there could be lizards lurking in the firewood) (it's Texas, it's rarely THAT cold), so I might as well just put up the fake fireplace and have the look of the fireplace and let people laugh at me if they want to.It's gorgeous, really. The remote control is an extra lovely touch (although at this point I have so many remotes in the den I hardly know which one is which). I live in a part of Texas that rarely ever gets cold enough to need heat, so I have not actually used, nor am I likely to ever use, the heat settings, but the colors and visual appearance of the flames are beautiful.
